Cost: $25.00 per combatant to cover hall hire
Red Ravens POC: John
Callum, of Order of the Boar, is running a dagger workshop. It'll be a chance to do some dagger fighting under the format he's proposing to use at future Harcourt Park events. They will provide some training gear (fencing masks and training weapons) so all you need to bring is guantlets and soft kit (e.g. gambeson). Note that the facility has martial arts training mats which don't take to full metal armour or steel weapons that well. There is an official facebook page.
There is a thread on Gathering Darkness where Callum, and others are discussing the event. This thread is a fork from a thread discussing a national tournament.
It starts at 11am and finishes at 3pm, with an hour lunch break. Car pooling will be arranged, and interested people will be sent a reminder txt a week before the event. If you're keen email John through his contact form. The car pool will leave Palmy at 8:45am.
Ravens going so far:-
- John
- Justin
- Will (assuming he doesn't have work on that day)
Comments
Many thanks for your initiative on this.
You have done a very good job on putting this together so I can't suggest
room for improvement.
However, you may wish to factor in some of the following:
-- The tournament format is based on the formal knightly/man-at-arms duel.
The time period for all costume and equipment is 1350 to 1450 although we
will allow a 50 year leeway on either side subject to the quality of the kit
and its overall look in terms of not looking out of place in a later 14th
century setting.
-- The dagger is the first elective weapon choice in our tournament format.
The others are currently sword and buckler, long sword and poll ax. Each
have increasing armour requirements and the dagger, being the first elective
weapon has the least armour requirements. However, the rules used in the
dagger format are followed through into the other weapons.
-- The competition format is that for each bout there will a challenger and
a defender. The challenger has the right to choose what weapon will be used
for that particular bout. Each competitor will be allocated both challenger
and defender roles as close to 50/50 as possible. Note that there is no
mixing of combinations - if a challenger chooses dagger then the defender is
obliged to use a dagger as well.
-- Each bout is also short, maximum of 2 minutes and the first person to
achieve a victory condition wins that bout. If nobody scores a clear victory
then that bout is a draw.
-- For Harcourt Park 2013 we hope to have enough competitors with the skills
and kit to be able to offer the dagger, sword and buckler and longsword
choices.
Best Wishes,
Callum.
